UBC Cities leading the way to climate neutrality

The disclosure cycle for 2021 has ended – report to follow spring 2022!

It has already been five years since the launch of UBC-CDP cooperation, and we have a number of our member cities consistently reporting their environmental data demonstrating actions in climate change adaptation and mitigation in our region.

We would like to thank the cities for disclosing for this disclosure period. We recognise the challenges and impacts posed by COVID-19 and distance working in many Baltic Sea Region countries and acknowledge that it has not been an easy task to continue disclosing.
Still, 22 UBC cities continued to report and disclose their environmental data via the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System during the spring-summer of 2021.

Stabilised number of participating cities from the UBC

The reporting system was open for cities to disclose their environmental data from 6 April to 29 July 2021. The cities who disclosed by the deadline received a score from CDP. Otherwise, cities were still able to submit their data, but did not receive a score for their actions. The CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System stayed open to the cities until December 2021.

The cities who have disclosed in 2021 (as of September 2021):
Denmark: City of Aarhus
Estonia: City of Tallinn (non-publicly)
Finland: City of Espoo, City of Helsinki, City of Turku, City of Porvoo, City of Kemi, City of Lahti
Germany: City of Rostock
Latvia: City of Riga
Lithuania: City of Tauragė, City of Panevėžys, City of Klaipeda
Norway: City of Bergen, City of Arendal
Poland: City of Gdynia
Sweden: City of Umeå, City of Malmö, City of Trelleborg, City of Söderhamn, City of Linköping, City of Växjö.

As it is possible for UBC cities to still add their submissions to the platform, this list will be update when new submissions arrive.
The environmental data that was submitted publicly by the UBC cities to the CDP- ICLEI Unified Reporting System in 2021 will be used by UBC to create 2021 state-of-play analysis and UBC-CDP cooperation report.

Highlighting actions from our member cities

UBC publishes every year a UBC-CDP cooperation report based on the data member cities disclose to CDP. The 2020 cooperation report “Scaling up for the next decade – UBC cities leading the way to climate neutrality” was published in February 2021. This report continues the practice of highlighting the best practices from UBC member cities in their aim to become carbon neutral, reduce their city’s emissions or deal with climate hazards and adaptation processes.

The 2021 cooperation report will be prepared and published on the website in spring 2022.
